Description

Right, I’ve been quite absent recently. So if anyone feels neglected by me (:P) then my deepest apologies, but real life obligations are sometimes stronger than my usual bumming-around-nature:d

Around two years ago I discovered Wolsung, a Polish steampunk rpg mixed with stuff you can actually remember from various fantasy books, movies etc. I mean dragons, trolls, dwarves, elves, magic, all that in a spooky XIX century industrial revolution setting. I’m not a big enthusiast of any kind of fantasy, but that unusual mix with steampunk made it interesting enough for me to take a closer look at it. Unfortunately due to me living in a small perspective-less town, I haven’t played it ughhh (can’t find a team of people that aren’t complete overwhelming nerds :P )… BUT! At least I can draw some fanarts as a compensation!

Another wonderful thing about Wolsung, is that the creators were visibly inspired with history, so many of the states included in this universum have got their real life equivalents. So, we’ve got despotic Morgovia (Russia), the powerful Alfheim (perfidious Albion), etc etc… They’ve even got Triple-Monarchy which is an obvious hint at Austro-Hungary (Mwahahahahahaha!)

So here you go with my idea how the Triple-Monarchy’s coat of arms should look like. I’ve included many of the suggestions the authors once expressed on their forum. If the creators were influenced with A-H as I hope them to be, my vision of the Triple Monarchy of Ostria, Sudria and Nordia is very close to the traditional, flamboyant heraldry of the Habsburg state.

In the pic you can see a three-headed black dragon called Fafnyr - the royal beast of the Monarchy. In the year 741 Fafnyr was defeated by three brothers, Ostrii, Sudrii and Nordii of Nimbelung, and from now on, he was obliged to serve the ruling House of Nimbelung, which, using the Huardezin sword, summons the beast occasionally (you know, wars, that sort of things). Most other states have got their own dragons as well.

The reason that I didn’t use a traditional, side-view of various dragons used in heraldry, is because imho it gave me less possibilities:P Plus, both wings fully spread look better I say, and so Habsburgish!

In the shield you can see a black dragon on a golden field (the symbol of Ostria), a silver eagle on blue field (Nordia) and a golden sword held by a silver armoured arm (Sudria. The authors’ idea includes only the goden sword, but shhh….) The Wolsung guys didn’t say anything about the coat of arms of the Nimbelung dynasty, so I’ve decided to include Triple-monarchy’s flag of black-white-red. Above Fafnyr you can see the royal crown of Nordia, imperial crown of Ostria and the royal crown of Sudria. Fafnyr is also wearing a collar of some mumbo-jumbo Order of Chivalry and holding the royal sceptre and orb.

The picture is made for non-commercial purposes, just sheer fun. It’s author claims no rights for the general idea and story, just the artistic presentation.
